KARACHI: Several areas of Gulshan-e-Iqbal have been flooded with sewage water after a fault in the area's main sewerage line developed. Filthy water overflowed from gutters and flooded several streets and lanes in the area, causing problems for residents.

Repair work on the line was started by the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB). "The sewerage system will soon be restored," assured a KWSB official.

Sewage water flooded Gulshan-e-Iqbal after a 33-inch underground sewerage line in Block 10-A burst. After the fault, areas such as blocks 13-A, 13B, 13-C and 13-D and block 4, 10 and 5 were inundated.

"The fault in the line was reported two days ago but repair work could not be started," sources in the KWSB revealed. "After the collapse of the town's sewerage system, streets and lanes of Gulshan-e-Iqbal are filled with sewage water. The polluted water has also badly affected newly-made roads of the area."

Several apartment complexes below road level have been impacted as water has entered their parking lots and, in some cases, their flats.

"Water from drains has also entered into the apartment’s water tanks," complained a resident, adding that life has come to a standstill due to the sluggish attitude of the water board. "The water board is not serious in resolving our sewerage system problems" lamented the resident.

According to KWSB Superintendent Engineer Imad Magsi, the line in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 10-A has burst, due to which several areas of the town have been affected. “Work for its repair has started and will be completed soon," he assured.
