KARACHI: Protesting teachers called off their strike on Monday after Pakistan Peoples Party MNA Naveed Qamar visited their protest camp in front of the Karachi Press Club.
Flanked by government officials, Qamar handed the teachers the official notification of their promotion and assured them that all contractual teachers who qualified the National Testing Service (NTS) and University of Sindh exams would be made permanent employees. "The Sindh Cabinet has already approved this decision and the provincial government will soon pass the law for it," Qamar said.
Teachers protest for permanent status, revised pay scales
Speaking to the media after Qamar's visit, All Sindh Primary School Teachers Association President Haji Shafif Sathio said the Sindh government had accepted the teacher's demand of permanent jobs for contractual teachers, and therefore, they were ending the strike.
The teachers started their strike two weeks ago and they attempted to besiege CM and Bilawal houses, but police intercepted and baton-charged them. Taking notice of this issue, the chief minister convened a cabinet meeting which decided to fulfil their demands.
