Asghar Khan laid to rest in Nawanshehr

ABBOTTABAD:
Former PAF chief and veteran politician Air Marshal (retd) Asghar Khan was laid to rest with full honours at a graveyard in his native town of Nawanshehr.

Before that, state funeral was held at the Noor Khan Air Base in Rawalpindi on Saturday morning and at FFR Centre (Piffer Ground) in the afternoon.

Eight aircraft flew at low altitude in two formations, formally saluting the deceased PAF chief over his native graveyard near Ilyasi Masjid. Asghar Khan was buried beside his son, Omar Asghar Khan.

The burial was attended, among others, by high-ranking army and air force officers and family members amid tight security.

The entire area was cordoned off by Jawans of Pakistan Air Force, Pakistan Army and Police and no unconcerned person was allowed to enter the graveyard except officials concerned, designated media persons and PTI office-bearers.

Air Vice Marshal Imran Khalid, Commanding Officer of the Risalpur Academy (Asghar Khan Academy), paid last salute at the burial site and laid a wreath on behalf of President and Prime Minister.

Floral wreaths were also laid by the Army Chief, PAF Chief, former air chiefs, all PAF units, Commander 10 Corps and GOC Unit-2.

Salutes were also paid by officers of the Frontier Force Regiment Centre and Baloch Regiment Centre.

Earlier, funeral prayers for the departed soul were offered at the Liquate Ground amid tight security and was attended by a large number of people from all walks of life, including officers and cadets of the Risalpur Academy, officers and staff of the Kala Bagh Base, civilian officers and a provincial minister, Qalandar Khan Lodhi, former federal ministers Omer Ayub Khan, Khursheed Kusuri and a large number of PTI leaders.
