Trump reaches Crucible final
A 17-15 win over Ding ensures title-match against Williams or Higgins.
SHEFFIELD:
Englishman Judd Trump beat Ding Junhui 17-15 to reach the final of the World Championship at the Crucible.
Two of the sport’s brightest young stars took on each other in the first semi-final but it was Trump who held his nerve as the match went on, climaxing towards the end as Ding was forced into errors that Trump gracefully pounced on.
Resuming 12-12 in the final session, Trump took the first frame to edge ahead, doubling that by taking the next frame as well.
However, Ding came roaring back into contention with a break of 138 – the joint highest break of the tournament – and a 47 in the next frame ensured the two were back on level terms.
However, Trump never looked back from there and will now take on the winner of the other semi-final between John Higgins and Mark Williams for a shot at the title.
