Jamshed Dasti and Mukhtaran Mai
Those saying that there was no rape at all are mistaken.
HONG KONG:
This is with reference to Atika Rehman’s article of April 30 titled “Jamshed Dasti and Mukhtaran Mai”. The Supreme Court decision does not mean ‘there was no rape’, it only goes to show that the bench hearing the appeal by the government against the Lahore High Court’s verdict was of the view that there was not enough evidence for a conviction of all six men.
Having said that, all those saying that there was no rape at all are mistaken and, in fact, plain wrong since quite clearly it did happen, given that one of the accused was found guilty.
