Anti-Literacy: Books set aflame by miscreants
The books were brought from Islamabad to Nowshera in a train
ISLAMABAD:
Unidentified miscreants set fire to a truck carrying textbooks in Nowshera. Police said a truck carrying 350 bags of textbooks of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) were set ablaze near Cantt Railway Station as a result of which thousands of books were burnt. The firebrigade and Rescue 1122 personnel doused the fire, but all the books in the trucks were reduced to ashes. The books were brought from Islamabad to Nowshera in a train and were to be distributed to different branches of the university in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Meanwhile, AIOU has completed the process of mailing books and study materials to students living overseas. The books have been dispatched to students in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, UAE, Oman and Bahrain. On the directives of the Dr Siddiqui, a new computerised tracking system has been introduced, facilitating its thousands of students to check books’ mailing status.
