Misappropiation: NAB arrests proclaimed offender at airport

Accused misused his authority as a member of a committee for purchase of vehicles

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Tuesday arrested a proclaimed offender upon his arrival at Benazir Bhutto International Airport, Islamabad.

The accused Muzaffar Nishat  was involved in corruption and corrupt practices and misused his authority as a member of a committee for purchase of vehicles. According to NAB, Nishat, as member of a purchase committee violated rules by recommending advance payments to dealers.

The advance payments made without any guarantee which were approved by Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) Chairman C.M.Anwar Khan and recommended by members of purchase committee in violation of finance rule.

Subsequently, purchase of vehicles was made and about Rs 9.7 million had been misappropriated in shape of exorbitant rates and fraudulent transfer from PARC’s account to Alpha Motors & Wings Motors.


He was deliberately avoiding to appear before court and absconded. Therefore, he was declared as proclaimed Offender.

Perpetual warrants of arrest were issued vide Accountability Court No. IV, Rawalpindi/Islamabad order dated July 31, 2004 in Reference No. 37/2001.      Moreover, proclamations were issued against him vide Accountability Court order.

The accused shall be produced before Accountability Court Islamabad on Wednesday for physical remand.
