Five gang rape suspects killed in police encounter

Suspects had broken into a house on Thursday and gang-raped house owner's wife

MULTAN: Four suspects and an accused of a gang rape were killed in an encounter with police near NLC Bypass, in the limits of Seetal Marri police station, Multan late Friday night.

According to police, Seetal Marri police had arrested two robbers, identified as Ajmal and Ashraf, in a case of gang rape and robbery. The police team on the lead of arrested suspects conducted a raid to arrest their other accomplices. When the police team reached the location, their accomplices opened fire on them.

In retaliation, the police fired back and during the crossfire, both arrested robbers were killed in the firing of their own companions, while their two unknown accomplices, later identified as Abdul Malik alias Malki and Qamar alias Goda, were also killed during the encounter.

The police shifted the bodies to a morgue of the Nishtar Hospital. Raids were conducted to arrest the escaped robber, police said.

On Thursday morning, five armed robbers had entered a house, locked the owner of the house, identified as Zulfiqar, inside a room and looted money, jewellery and other valuable items. Police officials said the suspects then ‘gang-raped' Zulfiqar's wife and took away Rs30,000 cash and other valuables worth at least Rs100,000. The victim, who is 25 years old, was taken to a local hospital, where she was being treated for physical and mental trauma .
