SIUT distributes certificates to 49th batch of student volunteers
Since 2006, 5,580 students have volunteered at the institute during vacations
A certificate awarding ceremony for the winter session of the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation's (SIUT) volunteer programme for students was held at the institute on Saturday. The ceremony marked the conclusion of a one-week-long training of the 49th batch of the programme.
SIUT holds volunteer programmes for students during the summer and winter vacations when students willing to serve community are trained in the basic principles of community service and patient care.
Volunteers during their training are also exposed to various measures that can help mitigate plight and sufferings of people. In this way, they learn the positive and productive role they can play for the betterment of society.
SIUT observes World Diabetes Day
During the training which is spanned over 30 hours, students of high school, intermediate, and O and A levels from major schools and colleges are acquainted with various departments at the SIUT, including OPD, radiology, clinical laboratory, oncology, dialysis, transplantation, lithotripsy, and medical and surgical sciences. The students are also allowed to engage with admitted patients
As many as 132 students participated in the 49th batch of the volunteer programme. Since the inception of the programme in 2006, a total of 5,580 students have volunteered their services at SIUT.
Besides the distribution of certificates to student volunteers, the ceremony also featured stories of dialysis patients and those who underwent transplantation. The event was attended by a large number of students, parents, doctors and other staff members of SIUT.
