LAHORE: To avert any untoward incident, City Police have prepared a ‘comprehensive’ security plan for the occasion of New Year’s Eve.

The plan was formulated during a meeting chaired by Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Amin Wains at Qila Gujjar Singh Police Lines. DIG Operations Dr Haider Ashraf, DIG Investigations Chaudhry Sultan, DIG Security Dr Moin Masood, SSP Operations Muntazir Mehdi, SSP Discipline Tariq Aziz, SP Security Ammar Athar, acting Chief Traffic Police Officer Sardar Asif and all divisional SPs were present on the occasion.

New SC year to start with old challenges

Speaking on the occasion, Wains said that at least 12,000 police officials will be deployed to ensure security on the occasion. He ordered field officers to show zero-tolerance towards wheelies and aerial firing. He also asked them to take serious action against fireworks. The CCPO asked them to enhance security arrangements around public parks and places.

According to the plan, search operations will be conducted in different areas of the city, especially vulnerable establishments and recreational places. Mock exercises will be conducted to improve response time in case of any untoward incident.

All the divisional SPs and Mujahid SP will conduct flag marches on important roads of the city.  On New Year’s Eve, special teams of the Dolphin Squad, in coordination with the Anti-One-Wheeling Squad of the City Traffic Police, will patrol vital points to discourage one-wheeling and eve-teasing.

Pickets, after set distances, will also be established on main roads. The purpose of these pickets is to discourage wheelies and keep an eye on any suspicious activity. Checking entry and exit points of the city will also be increased.

The CCPO also ordered the acting CTO to devise a traffic plan to facilitate commuters. According to the plan of City Traffic Police Lahore (CTPL), extra wardens will be deployed on the occasion and diversions will be created on different points. Special teams of wardens have been formed to respond in case of a traffic mess.
