Farmers issues to be resolved on priority basis

Issues of farmers are being resolved on a priority basis by the Punjab government, said Provincial Agriculture Minister Muhammad Naeem Khan Bhabha on Tuesday. Presiding over a meeting regarding issues of sugarcane farmers, he said that the Punjab chief minister had assigned him the task of monitoring the sale process of sugar cane.
He directed Indus Sugar Mills General Manager Sanaullah Niazi to ensure payments of sugarcane to farmers at the rate of Rs180 per 40 kg. Bhabha also asked him to issue maximum permits to small farmers on a daily basis.
Growers’ woes: Farmers demand timely start of sugarcane crushing
Niazi informed the minister that 500 to 600 permits were being issued to farmers by the mill on a daily basis. He said that the mill administration was purchasing sugar cane from small farmers and they were being paid.
