Round the clock: ICT deploys vigilance staff to curb illegal fishing

Police had arrested some people who were later acquitted by the court

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has ensured round-the-clock deployment of staff from Fisheries Department and Small Dam Organisation for watch and ward and to curb illegal fishing in Rawal Dam.

The Rawal Dam is under administrative control of Small Dam Organisation, Irrigation Department, Punjab and with regard to fish mortality ICT administration registered an FIR in Secretariat Police Station in July this year against miscreants living around Rawal Dam and involved in illegal fishing. The people were responsible in fish mortality.

Official sources on Sunday said in light of above First Information Report (FIR), police had arrested some people who were later acquitted by the court. Regarding steps taken by ICT administration for avoiding recurrence of such incidents, sources said Small Dam Organisation was advised to build  a fence around the lake which is in progress. Presently, drinking water was being provided to residents of Islamabad from Simly  and Khanpur Dam.

The water of Rawal Dam is supplied to residents of Rawalpindi by Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) after proper treatment for making it potable, the sources said.
