Courier company warehouse goes up in flames

A warehouse of a courier company in Korangi neighbourhood and a flour mill in Nazimabad locality caught fire on Monday.

The flour mill, located in Hadi Market in Nazimabad No 4, was gutted on Monday evening. According to the fire brigade spokesperson, they received information about a fire at the mill at around 5:50pm, adding that initially, one fire tender was dispatched to the site and later, keeping the intensity of the fire in mind, at least five more vehicles were sent to participate in the extinguishing work.

The spokesperson said that the fire fighters controlled the blaze after two-and-a-half hours of hectic efforts. The cooling process to completely douse the fire was still under way, he said.

The spokesperson confirmed said that no loss of life was reported but material losses worth millions of rupees were incurred due to the fire. The cause of the fire has yet to be ascertained. Local police reached the site and inquired about the fire, however, the police did not find any criminal elements in the fire.

Separately, in the early hours of Monday, a third degree fire broke out at a courier company warehouse in Korangi.

The massive fire that broke out at a warehouse of a courier company near Chamra Chowrangi of Karachi's Korangi area on Sunday night was extinguished after hours-long hectic efforts.

Initially, five fire tenders were dispatched to the site, however, another five vehicles were later sent due to the intensity of the blaze.

The fire brigade spokesperson said that as many as 12 fire brigade vehicles alongside three fire tenders of the Pakistan Navy participated in the mission to extinguish the flames, adding that it was a third degree fire. No casualties was reported in the fire, however, at least one person was injured after a part of the building was collapsed. Officials have yet to ascertain the cause of the blaze.
