Zarghoonabad SHO Muhammad Shafat said that the motive behind the crime could be a family dispute as Mona's brother had lodged an FIR against his sister's former husband.

"We have arrested a man who has been identified as Fazal Betni who was married to Mona's elder sister and then divorced her. The family believes that he was responsible for the murder but we are further investigating the case," he added.

As the teenager and her nephew were Christians, the incident panicked the community in the city and security was increased in various neighbourhoods.
