QUETTA: A local court on Saturday acquitted Majeed Khan Achakzai, the chairman of the Balochistan Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), in a vehicle tampering case because of lack of evidence.
Achakzai was produced in the court of Judicial Magistrate-II, Quetta, Muhammad Iqbal Khilji, who announced the verdict and ordered his acquittal in the case.

“Police could not produce enough evidence in support of the vehicle tampering case,” the verdict stated.

The lawmaker is affiliated with the Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP).

He was embroiled in a hit and run case in which a traffic police officer, Haji Attaullah, was killed in June this year.

A case was registered against him while the footage of the incident went viral on social media.

Later Achakzai confessed that he was driving the vehicle at the time of the incident.

However, two witnesses, police constable Hayatullah and Levies constable Muhammad Noor, produced by the prosecution retracted their sworn testimony.

The court had asked the prosecution to produce other witnesses on December 20.

Special Public Prosecutor Zahid Ali Khan was also present in the court.
