A towel factory was gutted into fire in the New Karachi neighbourhood on Friday. Firefighters said that though no loss of life was reported in the fire, valuables worth million of rupees was burnt to ashes.
The fire erupted at a multi-storey towel factory near Saba Cinema in New Karachi and engulfed the entire three-storey building, causing damage worth millions of rupees. Reacting to the information, firefighters immediately reached the scene and participated in the fire extinguishing work. According to workers, the blaze erupted at around 8am as when they arrived at the factory, half the building was already gutted in fire. Meanwhile, according to fire brigade spokesperson, initially, one fire tender was dispatched to the fire site, but later more fire tenders were dispatched to extinguish the fire.
The spokesperson said that at least eight fire tenders participated in extinguishing work and it took at least eight hours to bring the fire under control.
A fireman, Ameer Ahmed, fell unconscious due to the smoke while extinguishing the fire. He was later shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. The spokesperson said that the cause of the fire has yet to be ascertained, however, it is believed to be due to a short-circuit.
He confirmed that there was no loss of life, while cloth worth millions of rupees was turned into ashes due to the fire.

The police also reached the site to investigate the matter. Police officials said that no case was registered as the fire broke out accidentally, however, a case would be registered if any criminal activity was found during investigation.
