'Model graveyard to be completed soon’

Project will be executed by district governments, will also provide toll-free helpline for proper burial assistance

Deputy Commissioner Liaqat Ali Chatha has said that construction work of model graveyard (Shehr-e-Khamoshan) was in final stage which would be completed at a cost of Rs100 million at 20 Kanal land in Chak No 40-NB.

Giving deadline of December 31 to departments concerned, the DC said that Shehr-e-Khamooshaan was a public initiative for developing model graveyards which was a landmark project conceived in accordance with the chief minister’s vision to provide hassle free burial facilities to bereaved families.


The project will be executed by district governments as it will provide toll-free helpline for proper burial assistance by the graveyard, whereas shuttle service to transport the grieving family, body bathing arrangement, funeral prayer section and mortuary to preserve the body will be provided.

Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner directed the sugar mills administrations to ensure payment of sugarcane to farmers within 40 days at the rate of Rs180 per 40 kg or strict action will be taken against them.
