Linking mills to farms: Repair and construction of 19 roads approved

‘Travel time between farms and mills will decline’.

FAISALABAD:

Divisional Sugarcane Cess Development Committee on Thursday approved Rs155.71 million for repair and construction work at 19 falling in the areas of different sugar mills in the district.

The decision was taking in a meeting between the committee members and Divisional Commissioner Tahir Hussain.

The roads approved for repairs were: Road linking Chowk 40 Mor to Jaranwala City Road; road linking Samudri Road to Gujrati Mor; road from 447 GB Mor to Gargh Fateh Shah; link road from Tandlianwala Sugar Mill to Zafar Chowk to Kotwali Road; road from Jhalla Mor to Kanjwani; road from Jhalla Mor to Lakkar Chowk, road from Lakkar Chowk to Bhalak Road; road along Khurriniawala Rajbah from Shahkot, Jhumra Road to Chak No 68 RB; bypass road from Jhumra to Jhumra Khurrianwala Road; road from Chak No 528 GB to Chak No 530 GB; road from Muridwala to Mamukanjan; Chakjhumra-Salarwala-Sangla Hill Road; road from canal bridge Chak No112 JB to Chak No 1 JB; road from Chak No46 JB to Chak No 47 JB; road connecting Chak No 47 JB to the main road of Chak No 50 JB and road connecting Chenab fair shop to Bhaiwala.

The meeting approved construction of road connecting Faisalabad-Shahkort Road near Sitara Cehmical and Chakjhumra-Shahkot Road near Sangla Drain; a link road between Chak No 149 RB and Chak No 141 RB and a road from Chak No 49 JB Bhatta to Jhang branch canal.

Divisional Commissioner Tahir Hussain said completion of work on these projects would provide a boost to the economy of the areas.

He said it would farmers less time to take their products to the mills and markets after the repair of existing roads and construction of new ones was complete.

He said the roads would help provide job opportunities to people living in the villages by linking them to the nearby cities.

He said the time required to travel from these villages to Faisalabad would decline significantly with the completion of work on the 19 roads. Hussain directed the officials concerned to ensure that the projects were completed and opened for public use in time. He said he would personally monitor the pace of work to ensure that their was no delay.
