CM launches electric patrolling

Green Policing Units equipped with surveillance, speed detection equipment

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has inaugurated the country's first 'Green Policing Unit'.

During a ceremony, she inspected the new electric patrolling vehicle, drove it, and received a briefing on the technical specifications and the vision of the initiative.

The chief minister directed officials to gradually expand the fleet of electric vehicles and ordered the phased implementation of 'green' policing in other districts across the province. She termed the initiative a practical reflection of her administration's commitment to a cleaner environment and good governance.

It was announced that the first fleet of state-of-the-art BYD electric vehicles will be deployed for patrolling in Lahore. These eco-friendly vehicles boast a travel range of 410 kilometres per single charge. The high-performance battery can be fast-charged from 30 per cent to 80% in approximately 30 minutes.

Each vehicle is equipped with advanced surveillance technology, including a 360-degree camera, modern public address (PA) system, police lights, and speed detection equipment.

The transition to electric power is expected to yield financial and environmental benefits. Currently, a fleet of 103 fuel-powered patrolling vehicles consumes approximately 28,000 litres of fuel monthly, costing the provincial exchequer Rs7.42 million.

Fire safety deadline

Presiding over a meeting, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz issued a two-week ultimatum for all establishments to comply with fire safety regulations and ordered province-wide fire drills to ensure emergency preparedness

The provincial government decided to conduct a comprehensive fire safety audit of all markets, schools, and high-rise buildings across the province.

The chief minister ordered full implementation of the Building Safety Act and announced the delegation of special powers to the Punjab. Enforcement snd Regulatory Authority (PERA) Force to ensure compliance.

A cell will be established to monitor the enforcement of the safety protocols.
