PML-N, PPP submitted incomplete asset details: ECP
Electoral body asks parties to submit replies by January 8
ISLAMABAD:
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday said that the details of assets presented by the PML-N and the PPP in 2013 and 2015 were incomplete.
The ECP made these observations while hearing a foreign funding case on the application by PTI leader Farrukh Habib, and sought replies from the PPP and the PML-N by January 8.
During the hearing, a five-member bench of the ECP, headed by Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Sardar Raza Khan, said the two parties held back evidence of funding from the US and Britain.
Foreign funding: ECP to scrutinise PTI record
The CEC said that the ECP had always had the authority to listen to cases regarding foreign funding.
At the case, the PPP was represented by Latif Khosa’s junior associate and the PML-N by Jahangir Jadoon’s junior associate.
PTI lawyer Faisal Choudhry and petitioner, Farrukh Habib, were also present during the hearing.
Habib, the petitioner, alleged that the PML-N and the PPP maintained limited liability companies and received funds from prohibited sources. He argued that the heads of the parties submitted the audited funds without following the mandatory process of law.
Habib stated that the PML-N maintained a limited company authorised to do all sorts of businesses even with foreign corporation, governments and individuals.

The commission has sent a notice to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, the PML-N President. Notices have also been sent to PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari. Replies have been sought from the two parties by January 8.
Speaking to the media, PTI’s Habib said notices had been sent to Sharif, Zardari and Bilawal. He called it an ‘open and shut’ case.
“Millions of rupees of funding was not disclosed by the PML-N in their accounts,” he said, adding that it seemed their accounts were audited by a non-professional.
“Replies have been sought by the ECP. Their real place is Adiala Jail. He [Sharif] should not have been removed from the PM house but rather put directly in jail,” he said, adding that all parties should be held accountable regarding foreign funding, as directed by the Supreme Court.
