Three men die in trolley-truck collision

Police take vehicle into custody and search hunt for driver

LAHORE: Three men lost their lives while another was injured when a truck collided with a tractor-trolley in the limits of Badami Bagh police on Sunday.

Police said the victims were coming to Lahore from Nankana Sahib in a tractor-trolley. As they reached near Ring Road, a fast moving truck rammed into their vehicle and it overturned. As a result, the men suffered severe injuries.

They were admitted to the Mayo Hospital where doctors pronounced them dead. The deceased were identified as Qasim, 40, Javed, 43, and Afzal Shafi, 45. The injured driver was identified as Islam, 43, a resident of Depalpur, Okara.

Police and rescue teams reached the spot and shifted the victims to the hospital for treatment and bodies to a morgue for autopsy. They also collected forensic evidence from the crime scene and recorded statements of the witnesses.

Police impounded the truck and were searching for the suspected driver and investigating the matter.

Deaths and injuries due to road accidents is a serious issue that was causing a great loss to the public. In Punjab, over 710 accidents were reported in 2017, according to data compiled by Rescue 1122. In Lahore, over 400 people lose their lives in road accidents on average annually.
