KARACHI: Federal Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique has claimed that in three years, there will be no train carriages that could be called outdated.

He also said that this was for the first time since 1985 that there are 12 functional cargo trains in the country. The minister said that he had no issue with the Sindh government regarding the Karachi Circular Railway project and he was in fact glad that it was back on track.

He said that when he compared the progress between Lahore and Karachi, he was saddened.

Upon his visit to the City Railway Station, Rafique was briefed on the affairs of the Karachi division.

After the briefing, he told the media that the Railways ministry had increased its earnings to upgrade the railway network. The wrongs of the last 70 years are slowly being corrected, he said.

He also announced that work on the ML-I project will begin in the third quarter of 2018 as part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

Rafique also disclosed that he met Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah yesterday and clarified that he had no grievances with the provincial government.

He also advised the Sindh government not to work in haste, as the city of lights is not being given the attention it requires. “But times are changing and the future looks bright,” he said.
