KARACHI:
The Supreme Court (SC) directed on Thursday the provincial Anti-Corruption Establishment's (ACE) director to personally appear along with the complete record relating to appointments of influential persons in alleged violation of the service laws.

The apex court's two-judge bench, headed by Justice Faisal Arab, personally summoned the director on the next date of the hearing. Also comprising Justice Sajjad Ali Shah as its member, the bench was hearing a case relating to appointments of sub-inspectors in ACE.

The court was told that the provincial government had advertised 11 posts of sub-inspectors in ACE in 2011.

Advocate Ghulam Rasool Mangi informed the court that his client applied for the post as he was eligible and also fulfilled all the formalities and criteria required for the nature of job. However, he alleged that the government ignored all the competent candidates just to accommodate its favorite ones.

The apex court was told that the ACE authorities and other high-ups illegally and unlawfully hired 18 influential candidates against 11 posts. The petitioner came to know that the ACE director and other high-ups had prepared separate lists of the candidates to appoint only those having connections with influential persons.

The judges issued a notice to the director of the provincial anti-corruption watchdog with direction to appear along with complete record relating to the appointments. The hearing was adjourned indefinitely.
