ISLAMABAD: The Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors condemned the act of brutality against journalists by Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) officials and police, in a statement issued on Wednesday.
The use of force by the capital police and officials of the ZTBL left more than five journalists seriously injured. At least one of the journalists was shifted to the hospital with a ruptured skull after receiving a blow in the head.
ZTBL officials allegedly detained and beat up teams of DawnNews and Samaa News, who were accompanying the officials of Employees’ Old-Age Benefits (EOBI), a court bailiff and a lawyer.
Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has ordered the interior minister to conduct a judicial inquiry into the incident.
