PESHAWAR: Weeks after students of the University of Peshawar staged a sit-in to protest against a fee hike, it seems their agitation has paid off after the hike was finally withdrawn.

The University of Peshawar (UoP) syndicate on Tuesday approved an agenda item concerning abolishing the 10 per cent fee increase for the 2017-2018 session for all students enrolled in the university including in BS, MA, MSc, MPhil/MS, PhD and equivalent degree programmes.

Ali Imran, UoP’s media officer, confirmed the 10 per cent decrease in admission fee of students. In this regard, he said that a notification had also been issued by the varsity at the conclusion of the syndicate’s meeting.

Meanwhile, the students called off their sit-in on Tuesday.
