ISLAMABAD: Eight months after the body of a minor girl* was found dumped, police have made little headway in the horrific incident.

The three-and-a-half-year-old girl had gone missing from her home on April 7 this year. The police had later registered a kidnapping case after her father submitted a formal complaint.

However, her body was found dumped two days later in the backyard of her family’s home. An initial medical examination of the body suggested that the child had been sexually assaulted before being strangled to death.

The investigation was handed over to the capital police’s homicide investigation unit but the investigators have so far not been able to resolve the case.

An officer privy to the investigation said DNA samples from around two dozen suspects were sent to the National Forensic Science Agency in Islamabad around four months ago, but they have yet to receive the reports.

“We have not reached any conclusion in the investigation so far. The DNA samples were dispatched to the laboratory four-five months ago and we are still awaiting reports from the lab,” said a police officer.

The child’s father, while talking to The Express Tribune, said that no progress had been made in the case, adding that the police were still working on it.
