Supporters of Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) took to the streets on Sunday, denouncing United States of America President Donald Trump’s decision to recognise the disputed holy city of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
A rally was held at Numaish Chowrangi with the intention to have it culminate in a demonstration outside the US consulate on Mai Kolachi Road.

The police, however, prevented the protesters from marching forward by blocking off the area with containers and deploying policemen along the way. Meanwhile, negotiations between the authorities and the organisers of the rally continued.
The protesters, expressing their anger at President Trump’s decision to shift the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, which cements the controversial recognition of the holy city as Israel’s capital, burned the flags of both Israel and the US.

MWM leaders speaking at the demonstration said that it was an attempt to force unrest into the Middle East again. They said that they fully supported the Palestinian position on the issue and will not succumb to the tactics of the US, Israel and their Arab allies.
Trump's controversial move has been deemed an attempt to sabotage the negotiation process and tarnish peace as Muslims, Jews and Christian alike revere the city for its historical and religious significance.
Strict security measures were also taken by law enforcement agencies as a heavy contingent of law enforcers were deployed on the roads leading towards the US Consulate, while barricades were also erected to avoid any untoward incident. Water cannons and armoured personnel carriers were also deployed, however, no untoward incident took place.
