Quitting politics: Babar Ghouri leaves MQM-London

Three other leaders also leave the party

KARACHI. MQM-London was dealt a huge blow as four of its leaders Babar Ghouri, Shamim Siddiqui, Ambar Khan and Dr Nadeem announced that they were leaving the London led group of the party.

Babar Ghouri, a former federal minister and member of the Coordination Committee, resigned from all his positions saying, “I cannot continue working for the party for unavoidable reasons.” He also clarified that he has no intention of joining any other party.

The former minister, while speaking to Express News, said he was also leaving the basic membership of the party and his decision was of a personal nature. He also offered his apology to his party colleagues if he had hurt their feelings. He said if he made any [political] decision in the future, he will inform the media.

Meanwhile, former federal minister Shamim Siddiqui said, “I cannot continue working with MQM-London.” He added that he would also be staying in the US after abandoning politics.

Senior member of Coordination Committee Ambar Khan said both, MQM-P and MQM-L are the same and they are pushing their workers in difficulties. She said, “I cannot be part of a party where women are humiliated.” She also informed that she had given up her basic membership like Ghouri and Siddiqui.

Ambar, while speaking to Express, said, “My feelings were very badly hurt after what was done to the women and children in Azizabad on December 9.”

Meanwhile, Dr Nadeem, her husband, who was working as a political adviser to the MQM founder, told Express that the style of politics of Altaf Hussain was not appropriate. He said he now has no association with the MQM.

Sources said that MQM-London suffered many shocks on Sunday as many of its important leaders who were considered to be close to the MQM founder have announced they were leaving the party. They also confirmed that the four leaders who left the London faction of the party were staying in the US.
