Fun n games: Youth carnival kicks off in Peshawar
Minister says event will help develop linkages for peace and development
PESHAWAR:
With 2,000 competitors from all across the country, the National Youth Carnival (NYC) Mega Challenge-2017 began at 30 venues inside the Peshawar Sports Complex on Saturday.
“The participants are from educational institutions as well as from some 17 madrasas,” said K-P Minister for Sports and Youth Affair Mehmood Khan.
“In K-P and Fata some 13,000 students went through trials and selection process for this mega challenge. It is the biggest event of the youth in the country carrying prize award of Rs5 million,” Mehmood said.
“We want the youth of Pakistan to establish linkages for peace building and development,” said the Mehmood.
Organised by K-P directorate of sports and youth affairs, the event also highlights the traditions, arts and culture of the province.
The participants for the event have been selected in three phases held at the district, regional and now at national levels.
He added that the situation has now significantly improved in the city with fear remain in the hearts of people which can only be removed through such events.
The event will also help show unity and coherence. The venue has been decorated showing touch of the cultures of Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Fata and K-P.
According to the organisers they have tried their best to give an amiable ambiance and traditional Pukhtun hospitality to the visiting competitors.
The three-day youth carnival encompasses diverse blend of events drama, thematic art, painting, calligraphy, short film, Urdu, English, Pashto singing, cultural dance, music band, qiraat, Spelling Bee, Sell-it, Na’at, English and Urdu declamation, essay writing in Urdu and Pashto, poetry and quiz competition, business plan, ad making, stand-up comedy, extra ordinary unique talent, console gaming (FIFA-2017), chess and spot photography.
Along with the competition an international standard Education Expo featuring world renowned educational institutions and multi-national firms will provide awareness to the youth for their career building and future aspects.
