The Rock to get his star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

'A true honour,' Johnson expressed his gratitude on Twitter

KARACHI: Full-time pro-wrestler? Check. The most electrifying superstar in WWE? Check. Takeover Hollywood? Check. Highest paid actor in the world? Check. Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has achieved everything one could think of. And for his accomplishments in the world of film, he is now getting a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame in a ceremony to be held on December 13, as first reported by Variety. A very own Walk of Fame star? Check.



Johnson rose to fame during the WWE’s Attitude Era in late 1990s and showed his incredible skills to attract and engage a large audience.

After becoming the biggest crowd-puller along with fellow wrestling legend Steve Austin, he slowly made the transition to Hollywood in 2003. Even so, he sporadically made appearances and wrestled until recently and was involved with high-profile rivalry with John Cena in early 2010s.

While WWE chairman Vince McMahon has a star on Walk of Fame for his services to the television world, The Rock becomes the first full-time pro-wrestler to receive a star.



“Not only does Dwayne have a great personality and talent, but he also does a great amount of philanthropic work which is part of the criteria for earning an immortal spot on the Walk of Fame,” producer of Walk of Fame ceremonies Ana Martinez said. “We envision scores of photos being taken at his star by his fans.”

Announcing the news, Rocky tweeted, “A true honour. What a full circle journey. So grateful and so many people to thank. See everyone there! Tequila on me.”

While his accolades as a wrestler are innumerable; in Hollywood, the former WWE Champion has also starred in one of the biggest movie franchises recently, Fast and Furious. He is even set to star in its spinoff based on his character Hobbs. After becoming the highest paid actor in 2016, he only came second (after Mark Walhberg) in 2017.



He will soon be seen alongside Kevin Hart and Jack Black in Sony’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle releasing on December 20. Not willing to take it slow, his 2018 releases will include Disney’s Jungle Cruise (based on the theme park ride), Rampage, and Skyscraper.

It’s an unbelievable story, from being broke and evicted out of their $120/week efficiency, to dabbling in theft as a teenager to survive, and going on to becoming a wrestling legend and Hollywood A-lister, Johnson’s story is one of the ages. And with all his contributions and hard work to film and TV, he will be awarded at the Walk of Fame and made immortal.
