SUKKUR:

Two girls died and another suffered severe burns when fires broke out in Jacobabad and Ghotki on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. At least 41 houses were reduced to ashes.

On Tuesday, a short circuit in Gulab Mari Rind village near Garhi Khairo district, Jacobabad, sparked a fire that engulfed the entire area and left seven-year-old Ameeran and five-year-old Fauzia dead.

By the time the fire brigade arrived, 30 houses and stocks of grain were completely destroyed. The villagers told The Express Tribune that they lost cash, gold ornaments and other valuables along with 15 goats and over 100 hens and roosters.

Separately, seven hay huts, grain and some houses burned down when a fire broke out in Achar Katohar village near Thull on Wednesday. Some children inadvertently started the fire when they threw a piece of burning wood on to the roof of a house but fortunately, no one was hurt.

In the outskirts of Daharki, however, a low tension wire snapped and fell on a house that caught fire. As the houses were made of hay and bamboo, the fire spread quickly.
