LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday stayed process for appointment of vice chancellor of University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF). The court also sought replies from the Higher Education Commission and other respondents till December 21.

LHC Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah passed the orders while hearing a civil miscellaneous application filed by Dr Zafar Iqbal in an already pending matter. During the proceedings, the petitioner’s counsel Ahsan Bhoon submitted that the LHC had issued directions and guidelines for appointment of vice chancellors in public sector universities.

Three illegal appointments challenged in Lahore High Court

However, the court directions were being violated in the process for appointment of VC UAF, he added. He said that the authorities concerned issued advertisement for slot of the VC UAF without consulting the search committee despite court directions of consultation with the committee in this regard. He pleaded the court to stop the process and issue directions for appointment of VC in line with its directions and guidelines. However, a law officer apprised the court that 59 candidates had been interviewed for the slot and a summary had also been forwarded to the chief minister in this regard.
