Only pasteurisation to curb sale of adulterated milk: PFA

Authority holds consultative session with milk industry representatives

LAHORE: Punjab Food Authority (PFA) Director General Noorul Amin Mengal has said pasteurising was only solution to eliminate the sale of unpacked milk and its adulteration.

He made these remarks while speaking in a consultative meeting about implementation of pasteurisation law on Wednesday. “PFA is working day and night to ensure the sale of healthy milk in market,” he said.



Representatives from milk industry, farmer association, packaging industry and experts participated in the meeting. The meeting was jointly chaired by Mengal and University of Animal and Veterinary Sciences (UVAS) Vice Chancellor Dr Talat Mehmood Pasha.

Mengal said complete elimination of adulteration in milk was not possible until intense vigilance on sale of unpacked milk.

He said the PFA has passed the pasteurising law and sale of unpacked milk would be completely banned within a time span of five years.



Pasteurised milk is packed after boiling on a specific temperature for a set period of time. It kills harmful bacteria during this process, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Pasha said implementation of pasteurisation law was not difficult if key stakeholders play their part.
