Karachi police chief inaugurates Madadgar 15 helpline centre

Citizens can now download 'Police 15' application on their mobile phones, register themselves online

KARACHI: In order to ease the citizens' complaints and eliminate prank calls, Sindh Inspector-General (IG) of Police Allah Dino Khawaja inaugurated on Monday the police helpline, Madadgar 15's, new building in the premises of the Airport police station.

Karachi Additional IG Mushtaq Mahar, the Special Branch AIG, zonal DIGs and district SSPs were among several police officials present on the occasion. Former IGs, including Aftab Nabi, Mushtaq Shah, Babar Khattak and Fayyaz Leghari, also attended the ceremony. Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) chief Zubair Habib also attended the inauguration ceremony.

IG Khawaja briefed the participants about the latest equipment and software installed at the centre. The Madadgar 15 mobile application, call centre operator location identification and map location for mobile phone users, confirmation of task by police force and response about the task are included in the facilities provided by the new centre.

The citizens can now download the 'Police 15' application from the Google Play Store on their mobile phones and also register themselves on the centre's website, www.police15madadgar.com. The registered citizens will be given priority.

"This modern centre will help improve police performance to help the citizens," said IG Khawaja, adding that the accountability of the DSPs and SHOs concerned will be more transparent now.

"The role of the CPLC will also prove beneficial in this centre," said the IG, adding that the process to outsource Madadgar 15 is under way, while the Sindh government is the final authority to take a decision in the matter.

"I am thankful to the Sindh government, especially the chief minister," said Khawaja. "After being outsourced, the new 15 helpline will have latest recording systems and properly trained staff to handle calls and promptly react to complaints."

He said that for the first time in the history of the Sindh police, the monthly welfare budget has been increased from Rs55 million, adding that the Sindh police welfare currently has Rs400 million in reserve.

"The process to turn a Sindh police hospital at the police headquarters in Garden into a modern hospital will also start soon," the IG said.
Mahar said that there would be a complete elimination of prank calls with the inauguration of the latest centre. He appealed to the citizens to only inform the police about criminal cases and avoid complaints about personal issues.

"The Madadgar 15 helpline and its vehicles have been separated and now this centre, its force and vehicles will not be used in duties for VIPs," he clarified, adding that 500 more motorcycles with latest cameras installed will be a part of the centre by the end of February next year.
