ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party is all set to stage a massive public gathering in Islamabad’s Parade Ground today to mark its 50th foundation day.

The party’s leaders have vowed to put on an impressive show of power with pundits terming the turnout at the rally a measurement of the party’s popularity and fortunes in central and northern Punjab in the upcoming general elections.

With PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari set to headline his first major public event in the federal capital, PPP Islamabad leader Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar said that they had arranged to accommodate around 50,000 people in the Parade Ground.

“We will fill the Parade Ground to capacity. It would be a bigger crowd than any other jalsa which has taken place at the venue,” he said while addressing a news conference in the capital. He added that they have also set up separate enclosures for women.

The event is expected to start in the afternoon and end around 7pm.

Following in the footsteps of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, the PPP too has hired services of renowned sound maestro DJ Butt for the public gathering.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad Traffic Police have announced that the Islamabad Expressway, from Zero Point to Faizabad, will remain closed for general traffic to facilitate the political rally. Similarly, Garden Avenue between Sector I-8 and the Pak-China Friendship Centre will also remain closed during the jalsa.
