Call for steps to introduce latest trend in the agriculture sector

FAISALABAD: The experts on Saturday called for stepped up efforts to develop and promote value chain and decent work in agriculture sector that would help alleviate poverty as well as attract foreign exchange in the country.

These views were expressed by the experts from different fields of the agriculture sector at International Symposium on Global Value Chains Decent Work Deficit in Agriculture: Present Challenges and Future Prospects arranged by Institute of Business Management Sciences, University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) on Saturday.

IBA University Sukkur Vice Chancellor Dr Nisar Ahmad Siddique said agricultural was the backbone of Pakistan’s economy that was contributing 20% to the gross domestic product. He said illiteracy was one of the major challenges for the country that was root cause of many problems. He said there was a need to promote the latest trend in the agriculture sector in order to alleviate poverty and to increase productivity in the country. “Qualified son of a farmer does not want to be a farmer,” he said while speaking about the changing trends in agriculture sector. He called for taking measures to make agriculture a profitable profession. He said they had initiated talent hunt programme in IBA. “The scope of the programme is being widened in the all provinces of the country. “Without quality education, we cannot compete with rest of the world,” he said.
