LAHORE: Due to an ongoing sit-in of the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah (TLYR) on Mall Road, Punjab Assembly has prorogued its 33rd session for indefinite period on Thursday, however, the opposition said the government was trying to veer away from the core issues.

Official communiqué issued by the provincial assembly read: “…the governor of the Punjab has been pleased to prorogue the 33rd session of the provincial assembly of the Punjab with effect from November 30, 2017. Notification to this effect has been issued today ie Thursday, November 30, 2017.”

Expressing his concern over cancellation of the assembly session, Opposition Leader Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed said the government was trying to create Islamabad-like situation in the provincial capital. He questioned as to why the government was reluctant to engage the protesters in dialogue.

Speaking to media persons on Thursday, Rasheed said earlier PA session was postponed till December 4 and now it has been postponed for indefinite period.

“Instead of resolving issues, the provincial government always tries to delay the situation which later creates a big problem for the entire nation. The Faizabad sit-in is a recent example of this attitude of the government,” he remarked.

He said during the current session, discussion on misappropriation of fund in 56 public sector companies and other important provincial affairs were on agenda but the government has cancelled the session just to conceal its corruption and divert public attention from the core issue.

He warned that his party would not accept such an attitude of the government.
