PESHAWAR: At least five people, including commander of a peace committee, were killed and two others injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion in South Waziristan Agency on Thursday.

Official sources said the explosion took place at about 3:30pm in Spinkai area of the tribal agency bordering Afghanistan.

The victims were travelling in a pick-up truck, which was completely destroyed in the attack.

Deceased have been identified as Wali Jan, the head of a peace committee, Malik Mewa Khan, Ahmed Gul, Zaman Khan and Malik Ayar Dil Khan. Ahmed Jan and Khalid were injured in the ambush.

The peace committee commander had survived three previous assassination attempts.
