LAHORE:
Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to increase pressure on the government for early general elections in the country.

The party has announced it will take up the matter in upcoming session of the Punjab Assembly on December 4.

PTI-backed provincial assembly opposition leader Mian Mahmood-ur-Rasheed disclosed that his party has decided to bring all opposition parties on board in favour of early polls for which the party has already started to contact different political parties. For the purpose, the party has also called its parliamentary party meeting next week, he added on Tuesday.

‘PTI not to accept delay in general elections’

Rasheed said that the opposition parties will formulate a joint strategy to press the government for early polls in the provincial assembly as there was no government in the country. He said that the entire government was behaving as if it was subordinate to a disqualified person. The government’s policy on the Tehreek-e-Labaik Ya Rasool Allah’s (TLYR) sit-in had jeopardised national security, he added. Entire country remained under siege for three days but the government was in seen nowhere. Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Federal Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal should immediately step down over the failure of their government to clear Faizabad protest peacefully.

PTI, PPP refuse to pass crucial bill

Earlier, speaking to media, opposition leader said that early general elections were the only solution of the current political crisis as people of Pakistan want to get rid of present rulers. He highlighted that both Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) have also made similar demands in the past and the Constitution of Pakistan has provision for that.

He said his party was ready to go for elections anytime. The party has not yet partnered with any other political party for upcoming election; however, PTI senior leadership will make any such decision after consultation.
