Five people, including an opponent of disgruntled PTI MNA Ayesha Gulalai, were killed and two others injured in an attack on a car within the limits of Tajori police station in Bakhmal Ahmad Zai village of Lakki Marwat district on Monday.

The assailants were recognised as Shahid and Naveed and are at large, according to an assistant sub-inspector. They sprayed the car with bullets, killing five people, but luckily the driver survived with injuries, said the officer, adding that a passer-by was also injured in the attack.

The two injured were shifted to a Peshawar hospital, where the driver remained in critical condition while the passer-by, an Afghan national, was treated for two gunshots received in the lower body.

The police have recorded the statement of the injured driver, but had not lodged an FIR of the case till our going to the press.

The bodies of the deceased persons were handed over to their families after autopsy.

According to locals, those killed in the ambush included an opponent of MNA Gulalai.

Late Noor Zaman, the former secretary of Gulalai, had also been killed by motorcyclists within the jurisdiction of Tajori police station.
