Marketed as the perfect beauty travel product, micellar water has been all the rage for quite a while now. But do you know what this micellar water exactly is? Let us break it down for you – it’s actually pretty simple and might just add to your must-have list.

“It looks like water but when you feel it, has a different texture than water,” said Tabasum Mir, a skincare physician in cosmetic dermatology and cosmetic laser surgery. Many major beauty brands have caught on to the micellar water trend, and have come out with their own versions of the product.
It comes in handy when visiting places where no running water is easily accessible. And although it may seem like this ‘trend’ is fairly new, Mir believes this product has been around since the days the water in France was really harsh on the skin.

But, as great as it sounds, micellar water can’t remove heavy foundations or stubborn, waterproof eye makeup. King recommends micellar water for people with dry and sensitive skin as it’s very gentle and hydrating. “A typical foamy wash can strip the skin and leave behind harsh chemicals, further drying out dry and sensitive skin,” she said.
“And unlike many toners, micellar water does not contain alcohol and never stings. It’s best to use a super absorbent item like a cotton ball or pad when applying micellar water so that the product can easily soak up dirt.”
If you have oilier skin, Mir states that this product may not clean as well as you’d like. So she suggests those with oily or acne prone skin supplement with a traditional facial cleanser.
