Model postgraduate college gets new bus

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Model Postgraduate College (IMPC) in Sector H-8 saw an unfamiliar shape roll through its gates on Thursday.

A bus, bought under the Prime Minister’s Education Reform Programme, was transferred to the college on Thursday.

However, the bus is not exactly brand new. It had previously been assigned to the Islamabad Model School for Girls in Sector I-9/4, but it had been lying idle in the premises of the school.

“We sent a request for four buses [for the college] to the authorities and pursued the case effectively. As a result, we got one bus for the college,” said Professor Ijaz Hashmi, in charge of the college’s transport system.

The Sector H-8 college is a postgraduate degree institution and has been facing a somewhat crisis of transport facilities for its students for years.

The college only has three buses, which have been worn out from years of use, to ferry college students. However, it does not have the seating capacity to cater to hundreds of students of the college, many of whom have been refused a seat.

Due to the shortage of buses, many parents have been forced, particularly parents of girls, to arrange for private, expensive and unsafe transport.

But with the arrival of this bus, the college’s officials hope that the transport issue of the students would be resolved to some degree.

The new bus has a seating capacity of 63 students and even has a refrigerator on board.
