Air chief flies fighter jet of UK Royal Air Force’s prestigious No 9 Squadron
Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman calls on RAF Chief of Air Staff ACM Sir Stephen Hillier at Ministry of Defence, London

Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman on Wednesday flew a Tornado fighter jet of the historic No 9 Squadron of the United Kingdom’s Royal Air Force during an exercise training mission at the RAF base in Marham, UK.
Upon his arrival at the base, the air chief was briefed about the operational activities and the glorious history of the prestigious and elite squadron, the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) said in a statement.
“The event was significant as the same squadron was declared the twin of the elite No 9 squadron of Pakistan Air Force in a twinning ceremony held at PAF Base, Mushaf earlier this year,” it read.
According to the statement, RAF Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Hillier, had attended this landmark event and had also participated in an exercise training mission with No 9 Squadron of the PAF.
Earlier, the air chief called on Hillier at the Ministry of Defence in London where matters of professional and mutual interest came under discussion.
Talking about the internal security situation of Pakistan, the ACM Aman highlighted contributions of the Pakistan Armed Forces and particularly accentuated PAF’s role in the successful conduct of operations against terrorists.
The air chief also emphasised the importance of mutual exercises between two air forces to benefit from each other experiences. ACM Hillier appreciated PAF’s unmatched professionalism and its pivotal role in eradicating the menace of terrorism from the country.
Meanwhile, the air chief also visited Royal College of Defence Studies and delivered a lecture on the topic of “South Asia Security Dynamics: Pivot to World Peace”.
Addressing at the occasion, Aman highlighted the success of Pakistan’s model of counter-terrorism in rooting out the menace of terrorism from the country. “Our efforts of bringing the tribal population into mainstream has paid dividends and paved the path to long-lasting peace in the area,” he said, highlighting the need for reconciliation in Afghanistan to reach political stability and peace in the region.
The air chief also interacted with the faculty and students of this esteemed institution and urged the students to get maximum benefit from this valuable course. It is also pertinent to mention that the air chief is a proud alumnus of the prestigious Royal College of Defence Studies.
