Tennis: Nadal critisises rankings system
World number one Nadal has requested a change in the rankings system in order to prolong the careers of players.
LONDON:
World number one Rafael Nadal has requested a change in the rankings system in order to prolong the careers of players. Nadal, who extended his lead at the top of the world standings with a victory at the Barcelona Open on Sunday, believes the points system should be calculated over two seasons. “I don’t know if it can happen but I’ll continue to work for it for the benefit of future tennis generations,” said Nadal. “If it happens, we’ll have a more relaxed life and a longer career.” The world number one, who missed the Barcelona Open last year to rest ahead of the Masters events, believes the busy schedule takes its toll on players’ bodies.
