Big plans for university computer department
SALU holds conference on computers, emerging technologies.
SUKKUR:
Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur’s (SALU) department of computer science will be setting up a research centre for rural development.
The department’s Professor Dr Noor Ahmed Shaikh said that a special laboratory should be created to support research in bio-computing, mobile computing and cloud computing, along with a PhD programme.
A special academic industrial liaison office to promote internships and placements shall be created in the department, which will be upgraded to the status of an institute.
He was speaking at at a conference on computers and emerging technologies on Monday.
On another note, he urged that no less than an “X” category journal should be targeted for future conference papers to be published under their special issues. “The Springer LNCS series should also be approached for the publication of select research papers from such conferences,” he suggested.
Dr Nasrullah Memon from Denmark and Dr Sajjad Haider presented the keynote speeches. The future belongs to those who specialise in emerging fields and technologies, said the Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences and guest speaker, Professor Dr Miandad Zardari.
