LAHORE: The opposition benches demanded the government launch a grand operation against those involved in human trafficking and the killings of 15 innocent men in Turbat.

Opposition leader Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed made this demand through a resolution submitted to the Punjab Assembly on Saturday. He strongly condemned the loss of innocent lives. "This gory incident has caused fear among the people of Punjab."

Billion trees project

Similarly, the opposition benches demanded the government launch a ‘billion trees' project, along the lines of the one launched by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led Khyber-Pakhtunkhawa government, to protect the environment in Punjab.

The demand was made by deputy opposition leader Muhammad Sibtain Khan through his resolution submitted in the Punjab Assembly.

"The trees are cut for clearing the way to the roads and used in huge buildings. The lack of trees is polluting the environment and increasing risk of floods in low lying areas," he said. He added that geologists have suggested 25% forests on any county's total area of land.

"The climate change may affect the new generations if deforestation continues at the same pace," he said. He demanded of the government to protect the environment and launch a billion tree project.

School buildings in dilapidated condition

The opposition benches demanded the government to direct officials to repair 2,300 buildings of public schools across the province.

PTI legislator Malik Taimoor Masood submitted an adjournment motion in the Punjab Assembly, contending that students were insecure due to the dilapidated condition of school buildings. He added funds were released, but no renovation work was done.
