SARGODHA:
A court convicted three government officials for their involvement in corrupt practices and embezzling millions of rupees in Sargodha.

The judgment was announced by Anti-Corruption Court Judge Muhammad Azam Saroya. The prosecution told the court that highway department contractor Azizullah, Gul Asghar Khan, Waseem Ahmed, bank manager Zeeshan and Sanaullah had embezzled millions of rupees from the national treasury by preparing fake documents.

The anti-corruption officers nabbed the accused and presented the challan before the court. After hearing the arguments, the judge handed down 35 years jail term to Azizullah and Sanaullah and a fine of Rs50 million each.

The court also awarded 10 years imprisonment to Gul Asghar and imposed a fine of Rs1 million. However, the judge acquitted Waseem Ahmed and Zeeshan over lack of evidence.

Earlier on September 20, two government officials were awarded six years imprisonment each for their involvement in embezzling millions of rupees in Sargodha.
