Gambling den : NGO goes to court over police patronage
Petitioner submitted that police officers and even the highest office of the home minister were patronizing the den.
KARACHI:
A non-government group, United Human Rights Commission, filed a petition in the Sindh High Court on Saturday, seeking action against all gambling dens in the province and the police officers who cover up for them.
Nineteen people were killed and more than three dozen were injured in an explosion at a cards club in Ghas Mandi on April 21.
The petitioner submitted that police officers and even the highest office of the home minister were patronizing the den. The court was asked to order an impartial inquiry to identify police officers who ensured that the den ran without any fear of raids.
The petitioner maintains that the owner should be forced to pay compensation to the heirs of the victims and the police be asked to register an FIR against the owner and SHO concerned (PS Napier).
