UK minister visits Mardan schools
Mark Field reviewed the completion of construction work on the Government Girls Higher Secondary School
While built with support from the UK, the construction of girls’ schools in remote areas of the country often does not merit visits of ministers, that too those from foreign countries.
Hence it was a surprise for officials and students alike when the UK Minister for Asia and the Pacific Mark Field visited Mardan to celebrate the completion of construction work on the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, a statement from the UK High Commission read.
Field, the first British Minister to visit Mardan for over a decade, also visited a model police station.
The UK, through UKAid, has funded the ambitious Humqadam programme of school construction and rehabilitation, as part of a wider programme of technical support and stipends to improve the quality of education and the number of children going to school. “It was a real pleasure to see the work that the UK is doing to improve the lives of people across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa,” Field said.
