Inflation: Sensitive Price Indicator rises 16.5%
Prices of 15 items increase in one week.
ISLAMABAD:
The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week ended on April 21 for the combined income group recorded an increase of 16.52 per cent as compared to the corresponding week of last year.
However, for the lowest income group up to Rs3,000, SPI registered a nominal increase of 0.11 per cent over the previous week. In the category, the index stood at 301.24 points as against 300.90 points in the previous week, according to provisional figures released by the Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) on Saturday.
The weekly SPI covers 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.
SPI for the combined income group registered an increase of 0.25 per cent, going up from 287.45 points in the previous week to 288.17 points in the week under review. As compared to the last week, SPI for income groups from Rs3,001-5,000, Rs5,001-12,000 and above Rs12,000 increased by 0.13 per cent, 0.21 per cent and 0.27 per cent respectively.
During the week under review, average prices of 15 items registered a decrease, while prices of 15 items recorded an increase and the remaining items saw no change in their prices.
